Project Description
The GreenTech Mobility Project is an innovative initiative focused on developing eco-friendly transportation solutions and promoting environmental sustainability in the mobility sector across Africa. This project combines academic research with practical applications to address transportation challenges while minimizing environmental impact.
The initiative encompasses research and development of electric vehicles, sustainable public transportation systems, and smart mobility solutions tailored to African contexts. Through partnerships with academic institutions and industry stakeholders, the project aims to create scalable solutions that can be implemented across the continent.
Key focus areas include battery technology research, charging infrastructure development, policy framework development, and the creation of training programs for green mobility technologies.
Project Activities
Call for Applications for PhD Scholarships under the GreenTech Mobility Project
The Catholic University of Rwanda (CUR) is pleased to invite applications for PhD studies under the GreenTech Mobility Project: Advancing Sustainable Technologies through Academic Collaboration in Africa.
This project is carried out in partnership with the University Nangui Abrogoua (Côte d’Ivoire), Kenyatta University (Kenya), the National University of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (Benin), and the University of Energy and Natural Resources (Ghana), which will host the PhD candidates. Supported by the European Union through the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme, the project aims to promote research, innovation, and academic cooperation in Africa in areas related to sustainable development.
CUR invites qualified Master’s degree holders to apply for doctoral studies in the following fields:
1. Renewable Energy and Energy Systems
2. Circular Economy and Waste Valorization
3. Sustainable Transport and Clean Mobility
4. Climate Adaptation and Resilience
Selected PhD candidates will benefit from the fully funded scholarships, study and research opportunities at partner African universities, joint supervision by experienced academics, access to modern research facilities and technologies, international academic and research experience

Catholic University of Rwanda Hosts Hybrid GreenTech Mobility Project Kick-off Meeting and Seminar on Community Environmental Health
The Catholic University of Rwanda (CUR) successfully hosted the Kick-off Meeting of the GreenTech Mobility Project alongside a high-level seminar on Assessing the Community Environmental Health Programme in Relation to the Global Gateway Priorities and Rwanda's Development Agenda on 7 August 2026. The event was conducted in a hybrid format, bringing together participants both in person at the University's main campus in Huye and online from partner institutions, thereby strengthening international collaboration and knowledge exchange.
The seminar brought together representatives of academic and administrative staff, students, industry partners, and officials responsible for environmental affairs in Huye District. It provided a platform to officially launch the GreenTech Mobility Project while fostering dialogue on strengthening Community Environmental Health education through alignment with the European Union Global Gateway Strategy, Rwanda's Vision 2050, the Second National Strategy for Transformation (NST2), and national sustainable development priorities.
The programme featured presentations on the GreenTech Mobility Project, curriculum alignment opportunities, strategic partnerships, international mobility, research collaboration, and the project's financial framework. Participants also engaged in interactive discussions and group work, culminating in a comprehensive SWOT analysis of the Community Environmental Health Programme and the formulation of strategic recommendations for its future development.
The seminar reaffirmed CUR's commitment to academic excellence, internationalization, innovation, and sustainable development through strong national and international partnerships. It also marked an important milestone in implementing the GreenTech Mobility Project by promoting capacity building, research collaboration, staff and student mobility, and the development of curricula that respond to emerging environmental and public health challenges. The recommendations adopted during the seminar will guide future programme improvements and strengthen the contribution of the Community Environmental Health Programme to Rwanda's development agenda and the broader objectives of the European Union's Global Gateway Strategy.
