From 2 to 11 September 2026, the Catholic University of Rwanda (CUR) is undertaking a strategic mission to the United States of America to strengthen its international presence and develop transformative partnerships in education, research, innovation, mobility, technology, and professional development.
The delegation is led by Professor LĂ©on Mutesa, Chairperson of the CUR Governing Body, and includes Fr. Dr. Laurent Ntaganda, Vice Chancellor; Dr. Aimable Sibomana, Director of Quality Assurance; and Dr. Elias Ntawuzumunsi, Director of Research, Consultancy and Innovation. The mission also benefits from the participation and support of Mr. Charles Ntageruka, representative of the Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda in the USA.
CUR EXPANDS GLOBAL PARTNERSHIPS THROUGH STRATEGIC MISSION TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
During the mission, the delegation is engaging with leading institutions, including the Catholic University of America (CUA), Hampton University, Morgan State University, Virginia Tech University’s Alexandria location, and the Association of International Educators (NAFSA).
At CUA, discussions are advancing opportunities for research exchange, joint and dual-degree programmes in Nursing, Social Sciences and Theology, a 2+2 pathway in Computer Science, access to electronic library resources, and the establishment of a joint technical and implementation committee.
The delegation also met Sheba Rugege Hakiza, Project Director at Hippo Technologies and CEO and Managing Director of Pinnacle Planning Associates (PPA), to explore strategic collaboration in digital health, artificial intelligence, telemedicine, health sciences education, research, internships, and institutional capacity building, including a proposed Virtual Medical Center of Excellence and a Master’s programme in Digital Health and AI.
Engagements with other U.S. institutions are further exploring Pharmacy and Nursing programmes, faculty and student mobility, joint research and innovation, professional expertise, Theology programmes, career development, and funding opportunities.
Building on partnerships initiated in 2025, this mission positions CUR as an increasingly global, innovative, and forward-looking Catholic university committed to excellence, international collaboration, and impactful education.
